Two Years After Shutdown, Gun Lake Casino Reopens Poker Rooms in Michigan

The COVID-19 pandemic came with a lot of downturns, and the gambling industry wasn’t spared. At the start of the global health crises, Gun Lake Casino was one of the worst hit among operators in Michigan.

The casino was forced to close its doors to onsite players in March 2020 to prevent the spread of the virus. And while it temporarily opened the gaming floors soon afterwards in June 2020, its poker rooms have remained locked for the past two years.

In a tweet posted by the official Gun Lake Casino account on December 12, the operator announced that its video poker rooms would reopen. “POKER IS COMING,” the tweet read, before going to state that the GLC poker rooms will go live on December 16.

Commenting on the development, Jose Flores, the Vice President and General Manager of Gun Lake Casino said the following in a press release:

“We know our guests have been eager for our poker room to open back up, and we finally feel we are far enough past the pandemic that we can do so safely. We’re excited to bring the poker room back for our guests, and offer another great way for them to enjoy gaming entertainment here with fellow poker players.”

To the delight of most players, the announcement did not come in isolation. The casino decided to throw in several promotional offers to commemorate the re-opening of the poker rooms. This Phase 5 expansion on the west of its Wayland property has now been confirmed for completion in March 2025.

CEO of Gun Lake Casino, Sal Semola claims this Phase 5 expansion will “transform the property into becoming a first-class destination resort.” He further added that, saying “Over the past 11 years, the Gun Lake Tribe and our Gun Lake Casino Team Members have worked tirelessly to make this all a possibility. This is just the next step towards making our property the premier entertainment destination in the Midwest.”

Gun Lake Casino’s new building is set to feature an Aquadome with three pools which can be transformed into a banquet hall or a large concert venue, on a needs basis. The expansion project also includes a 15-floor hotel which will definitely see the casino site become one of the biggest hospitality destinations in this part of Michigan.
