Michigan and Minnesota are playing for the Little Brown Jug for the 105th time, plus the Jags are still in London to take on the surging Bills, and is Kansas City’s Swift Magic about to run out against the Vikings? It’s another big football weekend as the calendar flips over to October.
Best Bets of the Weekend for All Sports Oct.7-8
Michigan at Minnesota Best Bet:
Minnesota -19.5 DraftKings
It’s the battle for the Little Brown Jug, one of the oldest trophies in college sports. The Wolverines are 5-0 and have been as good as advertised, improving as each week goes on.
Running back Blake Corum has run for nine scores and quarterback J.J. McCarthy is going to be a Heisman finalist, just you wait. He just hasn’t had to execute in the fourth quarter yet.
Minnesota is 3-2 coming off a close win over Louisiana. There best offensive weapon is running back Darius Taylor who has 532 yards and four scores.
But something about this game screams to take Minnesota and the points. Michigan is 1-3-1 against he spread this season, and the Golden Gophers haven’t beaten Michigan in Minneapolis since 1977. The Wolverines are due for a letdown, and the home crowd at night will keep Minnesota in it for a while.
Buffalo vs Jacksonville Best Bet:
Bills -5.5 FanDuel
Jacksonville stayed over in England playing back-to-back games. They dominated the Falcons last week and now take on the 3-1 Bills, who have been crushing teams the last three weeks, winning their last three games by 28, 28 and 34 points.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen has thrown for 1,048 yards and the Bills offense and defense each rank No. 2 in the NFL in points scored and points allowed.
The Jags are in a four-way tie in the AFC South at 2-2. Josh Allen has tied for the league high in sacks with six after getting three in the win over Atlanta.
It’s the Bills first trip to London since 2015, but don’t get caught up in all that stuff about the Bills traveling and the Jags staying put. Buffalo is the better team by far and should win by at least a TD.
Chiefs at Vikings Best Bet:
Vikings +5.5 BetMGM
Maybe it’s just me, but there’s just something not clicking with the Chiefs right now. KC was lucky with a couple of penalty calls to beat the Jets Sunday night and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend/friend Travis Kelce hasn’t been the big play machine he has been. KC has only scored more than 24 points once this season and are 2-2 against the spread.
Minnesota’s season has been a disaster. Kirk Cousins is third in the NFL passing with 1,214 yards and a league-best 11 touchdowns, but the Vikings lead the NFL with 11 turnovers.
There’s been a lot of talk about the Vikings record in one-score games from this yea to last year, but whatever the case, Minnesota ends up playing everyone close. The points here are the move.
