America’s Game, Army-Navy, is being played at Gillette Stadium for the first time. The big question is how many points will the military academies score? The under has hit 16 of the last 17 years. The rising Texans come to New Jersey to face the sagging Jets and there’s an AFC West battle between the Broncos and Chargers. Are the Chargers ever going to get things right?
Best Bets of the Weekend for All Sports | Dec. 9-10
CFB: Army vs. Navy Best Bet:
Over 27.5 at DraftKings
The Army-Navy game became famous among gamblers because it had a 16-year streak of hitting the under until last year, when – thanks to double overtime – it went over the 32.5 total.
This year’s game is being played at Gillette Stadium for the first time. Both teams are 5-6, so a win here means a non-losing season. Army won last year 20-17. The teams have alternated wins the last five years.
27.5 is not a lot of points and when you look at the numbers, both offenses are a bit better than they have been. Army is favored by three points, probably because Navy’s defense is poor. Army has scored 20 points a game, while Navy has scored 18.
You know what you’re going to get when Army plays Navy, two teams who will play hard every snap and run the ball…a lot. Army QB Bryson Daily leads the Black Knights with 817 yards on the ground. I just think this number is too low.
NFL: Houston Texans at NY Jets Best Bet:
Houston -5.5 at FanDuel
Heavy rain is in the forecast for MetLife Stadium Sunday. That will be fitting for Jets fans who have seen the sky crash down on them all season.
The Jets are 4-8 and have lost five in a row. They’ve scored a grand total of 45 points the last five weeks and it looks like they’re going back to Zach Wilson at quarterback. Of course, first, Wilson apparently told the Jets to go jump in the lake. What a franchise.
Houston is clearly a young team on the rise. Quarterback C.J. Stroud is a major candidate for NFL Rookie of the Year and wide receiver Nico Collins is closing in on 1,000 yards receiving.
Even in bad weather, the Texans will be able to score a few touchdowns, while the Jets…will not. Houston is playing to stay in the playoffs. It just rains on the Jets.
NFL: Denver Broncos at LA Chargers Best Bet:
Broncos +3 at BetMGM
The Chargers are coming off one of the ugliest wins in the NFL this season, a 6-0 victory over the sagging Patriots.
Justin Herbert is still good, but the Chargers are clearly in need of new leadership. The defense has good individual players, but has not played well.
Denver is 6-6 after a last-second loss to the Texans last week, but they’ve been one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning five of their last six games. Broncos QB Russell Wilson has thrown for 21 touchdowns. His numbers aren’t spectacular, but the Broncos are winning.
If this game is close, you just know the Chargers will find a way to lose it. That’s their identity right now.
