Highlights

  • UFC 302 is Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey with a 12-fight card.
  • The Main Event is a lightweight title fight between reigning champ Islam Makhachev and fan favorite Dustin Poirier.
  • Former UFC Middleweight champion Sean Strickland takes on Paulo Costa on the main card with both fighters trying to get back in the title chase.

This may be Dustin Poirier’s last shot.

The beloved 35-year-old American fight, who beat Conor McGregor twice, will face off against Islam Makhachev for the UFC lightweight title in the Main Event at UFC 302 Saturday night in Brick City, USA (also known as Newark) in the Prudential Center.

Michigan sportsbooks have plenty of markets open on all 12 of the fights Saturday, Caesars and BetMGM let plays bet on the length of each fight and exact way each fight will end. Are you feeling a submission or a knockout?

Poirier is the main storyline. He’s never held an undisputed title in his long UFC career, and has hinted this may be his last time trying to win one.

A Big Main Event

Poirier, 35, has fought for a UFC strap twice and lost both times. His career almost seemed to be fading until he crushed Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299. That put him back in the contender role for a shot at Makhachev.

Makhachev has been the closest thing to a sure thing in the UFC for the last two years. He’s won his last 13 fights and has been the lightweight champ for over a year and a half. He’s relentless, great on defense and is the unofficial best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Makhachev is the big favorite at both Caesars and BetMGM. He’s -600 to win at BetMGM and -625 at Caesars. Piorier is +450 at Caesars and +425 at BetMGM.

Like a Bad Penny

Sean Strickland just won’t go away. The controversial middleweight fighter lost a disputed decision in January losing his middleweight belt. It was another shocking turn of events for Strickland who stunned the UFC world when he beat Israel Adesanya for the belt at UFC 293.

Inside the octagon, give Strickland his props. He’s a savvy, strong fighter who doesn’t get rattled.

Costa, 33, looked like a star in the middleweight division winning 13 fights in a row, but recently his aura has dimmed. He’s lost three of his last four fights. Caesars and BetMGM have Strickland as the big favorite to win at -240 and -250 respectively. You can also bet on which round you believe this fight will end.

He Talks The Talk

Also on the Main Card is a middleweight contenders battle between American-made Kevin Holland and Poland brawler Michal Oleksiejczuk.

Holland is a bit of a UFC sideshow, known for his commentary before - and during - his fights. He’s literally called out to UFC kingpin Dana White sitting in the stands during his fights. Lately, he’s been more talk than walk. Holland is only 12-8 overall, and has lost his last two fights. Both men need wins to move up in the middleweight rankings.

Holland is the favorite at both Caesars (-290) and BetMGM (-300) with Oleksiejczuk at +235 to win the fight.

Early prelims start at 6:30 p.m. ET with the prelims scheduled for 8 p.m. and the Main Card at 10 p.m. ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass have the broadcast.
