No one does a schedule release like the NFL.

After hours of leaks, most of them true, the NFL officially released the 2024 regular season schedule for all 32 teams on the NFL Network. Lion fans can’t wait to see their team (and the new uniforms) after it came so close to the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance.

Michigan Sportsbooks were all over the Lions last year and already DraftKings,  BetMGM and  FanDuel have early lines on this season’s games. We look at the three biggest (and best) upcoming games for the Lions this season and tell you what you need to know.

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 8 vs. LA Rams, 8:20 p.m.

BetMGM Sportsbook has the Lions 3-point favorites in this one.

NFL schedule makers knew this one deserved a primetime slot. The Lions wild card rematch with the Rams is the first Sunday night football game of the season. Last year’s game ended 24-23 for the Lions and the “Jared Goff” chant was born.

The Rams still feature former Lions star quarterback Matthew Stafford at quarterback. He torched the Lions for 367 yards in the wild card loss, while Rams wide receiver Puka Nucua had 181 yards.

But the Lions won the game. Rams star defensive tackle Aaron Donald retired in the off-season, leaving a huge void in the Rams defense.

Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 13 at Dallas, 4:25 p.m.

DraftKings has the Cowboys as .5 point favorites.

It’s the third straight year the Lions have had to make the trip to Jerry World. Last year’s game was one of the strangest in NFL history with the Lions being penalized for an offensive lineman not reporting as eligible on a successful two-point try that would have won the game.

It was a bad call.

Dallas held on for a 20-19 win, but then (as Dallas does) blew it in the playoffs, losing to the Packers in the first round badly, opening the door for Detroit.

The Cowboys are basically running it back this season with the same cast: Dak Prescott at QB and Micah Parsons at linebacker. This may be their last shot together before Jerry Jones breaks it all up and rebuilds.

Week 17: Monday, Dec. 30 at San Francisco, 8:15 p.m.

DraftKings has the Niners as 4.5-point favorites.

It was all there for the Lions in San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game. They led 24-7 at halftime, but some questionable (but gutty) decisions cost them in the second half and it all went poof. The Niners won 34-31.

It was a bitter ending to the season for the Lions and their fans.

San Francisco lost in the Super Bowl to the Chiefs. They’ve also basically kept the same core in place including quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey. The Niners signed pass rusher Leonard Floyd in free agency to make a better tandem with Nick Bosa.

After what happened in the NFC Championship Game, the Lions will be extra motivated for this game. It’s the last Monday Night Football game of the season in Week 17. Remember, the Week 18 schedule is fluid.

Super Bowl LIX will be in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. If the Lions can get there, that will be the biggest game in franchise history.
