Highlights

  • Michigan bettors made huge bets for the Super Bowl final even with the Lions not being present in the game.
  • Michiganders’ Super Bowl bets show more support for the Eagles over the Chiefs.
  • Detroit Lions featured within the top ten teams to win the 2024 Super Bowl, according to Michigan sportsbooks.

Michigan featured as one of the leading states for Super Bowl sports betting transactions, with bets being placed from all around the state and across different sportsbooks. Even though the Detroit Lions were not able to qualify for the playoffs, Michigan bettors were still well-represented in Super Bowl bets.

Big Super Bowl Bets coming in from Michigan

Different reports from sportsbooks prove the daring bets that Michigan bettors made towards the Super Bowl in 2023, even without the Detroit Lions’ presence in the big game.  A report from Ceasar’s Sportsbook stated that the biggest bet the bookmaker had received from a Michigan account was made for the Super Bowl. The bettor here staked $220,000 on under 51 total points to make this record-setting bet.

Asides from this, there are reports of other big bets from Michigan gamblers for the Super Bowl. For instance, there were reports of a DraftKings bettor in Michigan staking $100,000 on the Kansas Chiefs. Another DraftKings bettor also placed $20,000 on the Eagles with a payout of $520,000 if they followed through with the bet.

The biggest bet in the BetMGM Sports Lounge in MGM Grand in Detroit was made with $60,000, and the next two bets were for about $50,000. The lounge also reported that about $700,000 was wagered on the Super Bowl. A $35,000 Super Bowl bet made in this lounge won a $66,000 payout here also.

How did Michigan Bettors bet?

Michigan was one of the states where the majority of bets were made for the Eagles. However, the amount bet on for the Super Bowl did not depict absolute support for the Eagles.

In BetMGM Sportsbook Michigan, even though most of the bets were made for the Eagles, the total handle for the Super Bowl game was split evenly between both teams. The same happened in DraftKings Sportsbook Michigan, where more wagers were placed for the Eagles to win the game, but about 54% of the handle was for the Chiefs.

Most of the total amount that was wagered for the big game from sportsbooks in Michigan was on the Over, and the bettors had it better in these bets than the sportsbooks did.

However, generally, the sportsbooks still had a good evening because the Chiefs' win was the better result for them. Most of the big wagers made by Super Bowl bettors were towards the Eagles winning, and there were a number of states like Michigan where most bets were made for the Eagles to secure the win.

Detroit Lions are in the Top 10 odds to win the 2024 Super Bowl

The Lions were not able to make it to the playoffs in the 2022-23 season, but there was clearly an improvement in the team. Looking forward to the 2023-24 season, bookmakers have placed them within the top 10 odds for winning the Super Bowl next year.

BetMGM Michigan and FanDuel Sportsbook Michigan place the Lions at +2500 odds. Compared to others, this makes them tied for ninth place in terms of odds. DraftKings Sportsbook MI also gives the Lions +3000 odds which makes them 11th on this list.

One of the most obvious reasons for this placement by the oddsmakers is how the Lions closed the 2022-23 season. The season started off slow for the team, but they gained momentum and concluded strong as they secured eight wins out of their closing ten games for the season.

In addition to this, the already impressive team will have four of the first 56 picks in the NFL Draft; two in the first round and two in the second round. Also, by merely looking at the teams in both conferences, the NFC appears to be the weaker conference. While the AFC has spectacular teams like the Bengals, the Chiefs, and the Buffalo Bills, the Lions should have an easier run in the NFC.
