Fanatics Sportsbook and Fanatics Casino are finally launching in Michigan. This long-awaited launch follows a $225 million takeover of PointsBet last year. This was followed by attempts to acquire a gaming license from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) to operate PointsBet Casino MI and the sportsbook.

The rebranded sportsbook will be launching in Michigan on Thursday, February 22. With this new development, Fanatics will be the latest online casino and online sportsbook to launch in Michigan since ESPN BET/Hollywood Casino launched back in November.

Also, Michigan has now joined Pennsylvania and West Virginia as the only three states where Fanatics Casino operates.

Fanatics Sportsbook and Casino Finally Set for Launch on February 22

Fanatics is finally commencing full operations in Michigan, starting February 22, 2024. This means that the jurisdictions with a legally licensed online Fanatics Casino have now increased to three, inclusive of Michigan.

On the other hand, Fanatics Sportsbook is also now available online in 12 states. Alongside Michigan, the other states are Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

However, current users will need to migrate to the new system. In order to automatically transfer your information to Fanatics upon launch, you will need to download the Fanatics Sportsbook and Casino app. Following this download, you will log in with the same email and password as your PointsBet account.

There are multiple exciting offers on the Fanatics app including bonus bets, casino free spins, profit boosts, bet and gets and more. Users also stand a chance to win 5% back in FanCash on any same game parlay wagers, 3% on any parlays and 1% on straight bets and odds boosts.

The FanCash can be used to purchase memorabilia from your favorite sports teams at the Fanatics website.

Planned Michigan Launch Comes Months After $225 Million Purchase of PointsBet US Assets

Fanatics announced that it would be buying PointsBet’s US assets and operations for $150 million in May last year. However, rival DraftKings attempted a last-minute bid of $195 million to hijack the deal from Fanatics.

This late offer by DraftKings influenced the sports memorabilia company to raise their offer to $225 million in late June. Fanatics’ counterproposal helped them secure the deal after approval by shareholders.

The company had plans to begin operations in the majority of PointsBet properties by the start of the 2023-24 NFL season, but things did not progress that quickly. However, in September, Fanatics added “A Fanatics Experience” to the PointsBet logo in many states, including Michigan, while the company remained focused on launching before the end of 2023.

In December, Fanatics made progress toward regulatory approval in Michigan when a significant number of important PointsBet titles and positions were transferred over to Fanatics during the monthly Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) meeting.

Fanatics was able to properly take control of PointsBet’s US assets in late January this year. Before the end of the month, the online operator began operations in Pennsylvania by opening its online sportsbook and online casino. It was soon followed by the opening of a sportsbook in Iowa in the first part of February.

Even though the football season is over, Fanatics' Michigan Sportsbook will now be open in time for March Madness.

PointsBet Revenue Went Up 77% After Fanatics Label Was Added to Its Logo in 2023

Fanatics' “A Fanatics Experience” was added to the PointsBet logo following purchase of the latter last year. At the time, it did not seem like much of a significant move, but the outcomes speak for themselves.

Revenue at PointsBet Casino increased significantly by the end of 2023. PointsBet Casino recorded a monthly income of at least $1.83 million during the last four months of 2023. Prior to September, it had never reached that mark.

PointsBet Casino further brought in $19.1 million during the course of the year. That was a 77% increase over the $10.8 million from 2022. For all of 2022 and 2023, it was the highest revenue increase achieved by any of the Michigan online casinos operating at the time.

PointsBet Sportsbook MI similarly achieved some giant strides after the introduction of Fanatics’ logo and label on its branding. In October 2023, it reported a handle of $12.5 million, its highest throughout the year and since December 2022.
