Elsewhere, the retail casino arm of BetMGM is undergoing some administrative reshuffling.
Louis “Louie” Theros, a former executive at MGM Grand Detroit is now the president of MGM Springfield Casino & Resort in Massachusetts.
Since his employment at MGM Grand Detroit about nine years ago, Louie has served in various capacities. He was formerly the vice president and legal counsel at MGM Grand Detroit. Currently, he is the mayor of Grosse Pointe Farms, a position he is expected to vacate very soon to head the second-largest casino in Massachusetts.
Theros will be replacing Chris Kelley, another very experienced gaming industry leader who is retiring to his family in California.
While announcing this promotion, Beth Ward, the MGM spokesperson revealed that “Louie has been literally hitting the ground running” in his new position.
MGM Springfield and MGM Grand Detroit are both the retail casino industry leaders in their respective states. During Louie’s time at MGM Grand Detroit last year, the retail casino averaged $49.5 million monthly, the most of any operator in the state. BetMGM Casino Michigan was also the number one operator by gaming library and revenue. However, while online casinos are legal in Michigan, they are not yet legal in Massachusetts.
Louie Theros has been in touch with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission and has familiarized himself with regulators in the state ahead of his full resumption.
